Repost From Facebook:My Raleigh Borneo Expedition 10D

Posted in facebook before I had this blog.
Pre Expedition
Paid the deposit quite a long time ago(I think is 2008 year end or early 2009). Time flies. Today is the last 15 days before departing to Sabah for 3 months.

Have totally no idea how is the life of going to expedition. Stories we had heard alot, from those venturers that came back, but still, I cant imagine the life there. It is just so....mixed feeling.

It is not like going to UK for 3 months during year 2009, at least, we went there with a whole bunch of friends, stil able to use technology to keep in touch with the happening news in Msia.

Consider lucky? I am going with 5 females venturers from Raleigh KL support group. LoL.

Preparing stage
Many things to prepare, it is just like never ending preparing.
Settling my insurance follow up, hopefully nothing really big and bad happen during my expedition.<praying>

Looking forward to expedition, looking forward to met other venturers from all over the world, looking forward to meet those ppl in sabah, looking forward to my post expedition trip.

Hereby, thank to all that helped me through out the whole pre expedition stage, including the farewell in June big house. LOL.

Raleigh International KL changes a lot of ppls' life. If you getting bored with what you are doing now, please, come to our big family.

Post Expedition
3 months ago, I am still busy preparing stuff for expedition.
3 months later, expedition finished.
3 months just went like that, without knowing how fast the whole expedition finished.

Expedition started with 6 host country venturers arrived in field base, then TAC.

My first impression about all the HCV
Sandra and Ange seem to be very serious.
Arina seem to be very pendiam(quiet person).
Chee Huan seem to be very english person type.
Gq no comment.

Now if you ask me the again who are them, I will tell you
Sandra- most english man personality, only Sandra will do sunbathing, all the HCV will tried to hide under the shade. She loves oat alot. Speaking english accent.

Ange- You somehow cant imagine the way she laugh. I bet nobody in the planet able to copy the way she laugh. Top one laughing queen. Ohya, and dancing queen. haha !

Arina- One of my best mate during the whole expedition. Malay+Chinese, sometimes crazy, sometimes normal, and TOTALLY not a pendiam !

Chee Huan- She will just made me laugh everytime. Super big head prawn, forget where she put this, forget where she put that, lost this, lost that, the whole expedition. Super malaysian with her malaysian accent !

My projects for 10 weeks expedition
1st phase- Imbak Canyon, building 1/1000 of a suspension bridge.
2nd phase-Kampung Maliau Angin, building a kindergarden.
3rd phase-Trekking in Long Pasia, diving in Pulau Mamutik.

Just to let you know, Imbak Canyon, Maliau Layung, Long Pasia, are 3 places that super remote, accessible only using 4 x 4 vehicle.

The whole expedition just too weird for me.
I never thought i will be celebrating my birthday with a bunch of english people,3 times.
I never thought i will be having so many english friends in my life, good friend i mean.
I never thought i will be buidling kindergarden and bridge for other people.
I never thought i will be eating oat every morning, my mum asked me to do that for thousand years and i just ignored that.
I never thought expedition is like that.

Before I join expedition, if you ask me, what is expedition, i will tell you, expedition is a 10 weeks program that doing community phase, enviromental phase, and adventure phase.

But if you ask me now, what is expedition means to you, the answer will be as simple as, expedition is something you made changes to other generation, and made changes as well to yourself.

Having all the food that you dont like, getting up at 6am to start work, sometimes you will get annoying team mate,no proper toilet,no proper shower, no bed for you to sleep, no air cond,no electricity,no internet, no newspaper, no telephone line, expedition just seem no fun at all.

Every single sen that you paid, every single hard work you do, just worth it, when you see the faces of villagers, the smiling faces with hope when a kindergarden is build. We really made changes to their life.

10 years later, when you looked back the coral that you planted inside the sea, when you look at the kids that grown up with higher educations, proudly say that, yeah, we do made changes to mother earth, to people around us.

Expedition changeover- a 2 nights in a hotel , which you will met all the ppl
What HCV do during changeover is basically sit around and just chatting all way long
1st changeover, celebrate Our big head prawn birthday with raleigh style, DIY cake and flowers, hope you dont mind ya Chee Huan.

2nd changeover-celebrate Ange's birthday, our big sister over there ! again with raleigh style with lots of stuff, durians, mangosteen, rambutan, langsat, cake. Farewell for Helen, one of my really best mate in expedition, i miss you always !
And sahur with Arina as well, lol, get some free breakfast.

3rd changeover or endex party- HCV gathered around again and do all the crazy photo shot.

Expedition project managers always ask what is your low point, my low point ? when i lost the camera battery for phase 2, when i struggling to learn diving, just that.

I definately will go back to expedition again, either as venturer or as project managers.

Specially thanks to Raleigh Borneo Expedition Field Base Staff, for organising the whole expedition.

Specially thanks to all the project managers, especially mine project managers, Frantz,Nick and Sarah for phase 1, Gearam,Oonaugh, Rachel for phase 2, Gearam and Doctor Andrew for phase 3. I learned a lot from you guys.

Specially thanks to all the venturers that i worked together before. it is just so amazing to have all of you in my life although only 10 weeks.

Specially thanks to all the good friends, buddy from Raleigh International Kuala Lumpur, for supporting us alot alot. and sending us a lot of stuff every changeover or loop.
